BBC Studios Showcase is the flagship content market, which attracts around 700 buyers annually. It had been held in the UK city of Liverpool for nine years, until it relocated to London’s Leicester Square for this year’s edition. Its 2021 and 2022 iterations were held online during the pandemic.

The iconic atomic dots on the BBC Television Centre are an intrinsic part of the history and identity of The BBC, as well as the inspiration behind our master brand design system. With Bold British Creative in mind we created a version 2.0 for Showcase 2021.

The challenge was to create a platform that followed the new, bold 2.0 vision of Showcase 2021, whilst ensuing buyers could access events and content intuitively. Buyers were expected to spend several hours on this platform at any given time, discovering content. Working with the UX team and developers we were able to create a system that could be frequently repeated but still feel varied and interesting.
